Literally hundreds of kids and adults in our area have difficulty reading because of some degree of dyslexia. Thousands more struggle with some difficulty reading. My Reader’s Edge tutors kids who struggle with reading, giving them the edge they need to go as far as talent and effort can take them.
My Reader’s Edge is based upon The Barton Reading & Spelling System. Technically, it is an Orton-Gillingham Influenced Simultaneous Multisensory Explicit and Systematic Phonics Program. When you see this reading and spelling training in action you’ll notice your reader will use sight, objects, sounds and hand motions to help train (or retrain) the brain to organize for better reading- both for those who experience some form of dyslexia or just have difficulty reading. Parents have literally cried when they heard their reader read fluently and with expression for the first time!
When a reader is interested in being tutored, an interview between Kathie, the reader and their parent or guardian is conducted to explain how My Reader’s Edge tutoring is organized, available scheduling and costs. Following this interview, the student must pass a basic skills level test; there are certain basic skills and understanding a student must have in order for the tutoring to be successful. Following a successful skills test, the parent or guardian will need to complete and sign the My Reader’s Edge tutoring contract.
